March 8th, also known as International Women's Day, is a holiday established to
celebrate the significant contributions and remarkable achievements made by
women in the economic, political and social fields.
Over the past few decades, the four global conferences of the United Nations have
strengthened the international women's movement. As the international women's
movement grew, International Women's Day gained global significance. The United
Nations began to celebrate International Women's Day in 1975, recognizing the tradition
of ordinary women striving for equal participation in society. In 1997, the conference passed
a resolution asking each country to select a certain day of the year to declare as the United
Nations Day for Women's Rights and World Peace, based on its own history and ethnic traditional
customs. The United Nations' initiative led to the establishment of national legal frameworks for
achieving gender equality and raised public awareness of the urgent need to improve the status
of women in all aspects.
International Women's Day is not only a day to celebrate the achievements of women,
but also an opportunity to remind us to continue striving for gender equality and social justice.
It encourages women to realize their potential, while also calling on the entire society to respect
and protect women's rights.
